Alaska Volcano Starts Cooling Down
After Eruption
After
more than 24 hours of activity, the Alaskan volcano, Pavlof, is cooling down. Now that the rate of eruption is on the
decline, The Alaska Volcano Observatory has lowered its alert status
to orange. An ash cloud still remains over the interior of Alaska and the Bering Sea. The ash was
significant enough for many flights to be canceled on
Monday, but some passengers who were aboard Alaska Airlines
flights were able to capture Pavlof erupting.
Alaska Volcano Unexpectedly Erupts
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a volcano on Alaska's Aleutian Islands erupted Sunday afternoon and
sent ash 20,000 feet into the air. The Pavlof Volcano, which is about 600
miles southwest of Anchorage, erupted around 4 PM local time. The
agency says the eruption also led to tremors on the ground. The
volcano, which is about 4 and a half miles in diameter, has 40 recorded
eruptions and "is one of the most consistently active volcanoes in the Aleutian Arc."
Egyptian Tour Company Jokes About EgyptAir
Flight Hijacking
An EgyptAir flight was hijacked and was forced to
land in Cyprus. A few hours after the incident occurred the
Egyptian tourism company Lions Trips posted
a joke about the violent act onto their Facebook
page. Their post was promoting some of their excursion packages and
stated, “maybe a hijacker will take you to Cyprus.” The universal reaction to their joke was that it came ‘too soon.’ Although, no one
was hurt during the hijacking, it is still not a laughing matter.
